Director of Engineering · Engineering Leadership for Complex Platforms
Translator between business reality and technical possibility — builds the organizations, platforms, and delivery systems that turn business goals into measurable outcomes.
17 years at SCG Global — from lead developer to CTO — building an 8-product maritime enterprise platform from zero. Scaled the engineering team to 12, delivering scope comparable to competitor platforms running 40+. The platform serves real people at real scale: 82,666 seafarers, 27 vessels, $226.7M in cumulative fleet operations — 92 production releases, zero data loss, zero Port State Control detentions, Bureau Veritas certified. Now fully focused on contributing that depth to the Canadian technology ecosystem.

In 2009, Alex joined SCG Global as its first software engineer and spent 17 years building what became an 8-product integrated enterprise platform — and the engineering organization that delivered it.
The challenge was not just technical. Commercial vessels operate with intermittent connectivity, face Port State Control inspection, and cannot afford downtime. Every platform and team decision reflected those constraints: offline-first architecture, legal-grade audit trails, a Kafka-based integration backbone that decoupled 8 products before there were 8 products to decouple, and a Bureau Veritas certification audit that Alex personally led and passed.
The engineering challenge had a particular shape: building a team that could sustain delivery through three complete rotations without disruption, scaling from a single product to an 8-product platform, and directing a complete AWS infrastructure relocation from on-premise Ukraine during active wartime operations — with 100% operational continuity and zero client loss.
For 17 years, Alex owned both the platform and the organization. The role titles changed — Lead Developer, Director of Engineering, Chief Technology Officer. The mandate — building systems and teams that deliver under real-world constraints — didn't.
